Obesity: Treatments and Preventions


Obesity is a very high fat deposition in the body that make weight out of the limit. A number of complications can arise due to obesity, even some of them could endanger lives. Beside leading to a number of physical health problems, obesity can also lead to psychological problems, such as stress and depression. To determine whether your weight belong to a healthy weight, it can be done through BMI calculation method (body mass index). The formula used in the calculation of BMI is body weight in kilograms divided by height in meters squared (m²). For example if a person's weight is 66 kg and height is 1.65 meters, then the calculation is 66 / (1.65 x 1.65) = 24.2.

These results are included in the category of healthy or normal weight because they ranged from 18.5 to 24.9. If the final results of your BMI is less than 18.5 then you are considered underweight. Conversely, if the result is more than 24.9 then you are considered overweight. An obese person is they who have a BMI calculation results between 30 to 39.9. Furthermore, a person is considered as an extreme obese if the BMI is above 40.


Obesity can happen when we often eat high-calorie foods. Actually eating high-calorie foods are not always becoming a problem as long as appropriate with the activities carried out every day. However, if we spend more time sitting and not balance by active exercise, so the residual energy from the burning of calories will be stored in the body as fat. Gradually, the accumulation of fat will increase and make the body look bigger or fat.


Losing weight to a normal size for health is a primary goal of obesity treatment. If you suffer from obesity, it is advisable to cut 600 calories per day constantly in order to lose weight safely. Losing weight safely for the obese is about half a kilogram to one kilogram per week. Means that if you are a man who suffer from obesity, then the total calorie intake per day should not be more than 1900 calories.


Meanwhile, if you are an obese woman, then the calorie intake per day should not exceed 1400. In addition to implementing healthy eating habits, other things that also need to implement to reduce obesity is to exercise regularly. Advised to exercise for two and a half hours to five hours per week. Examples of an easy sport to do is jogging in the morning or evening, swimming, playing badminton, or cycling.


To support your success in recovering obesity, ask family or friends to also support and give motivations. In addition, avoid situations that will make you are tempted to eat unhealthy foods or eating uncontrollably. If necessary, ask for a help from a psychologist to change the way you look at food or diet. Do not forget to always monitor the results and compare with the following weeks.
